Herts care company investigated by BBC’s Panorama

An elderly care company previously contracted by Herts County Council (HCC) was the subject of investigations by the BBC programme Panorama last week.

Care UK was granted a £2.4 million annual contract by HCC last year, which after thousands of complaints and over 900 missed calls was terminated after just 10 months. Despite this, the company is still contracted by Harrow Council where a care inspector's report found Care UK "is run more in the interests of the staff than the people they are supposed to be caring for."

An undercover reporter for the BBC witnessed first-hand the neglectfully poor service provided by the company in Hertfordshire last year. One elderly woman did not receive visits for a 24 hour period, during which she had no access to food, water, medication or bathroom facilities.

Care UK admitted that the woman had dropped off their computer system and apologised to her family.
