By-elections in Sele Farm and Castle

Elections are back on the agenda again in Hertford, with two town council by-elections being held for Sele and Castle wards on Tuesday 21 July.

EHP is pleased to report that we pooled together the 10 residents' signatures necessary to call an election in each ward; we are glad to see that local people now have a chance to decide who represents them on the town council.

The elections are to fill recent vacancies on the council following the resignation of Cllr John Cook in April and the dismissal of Cllr Sacha Bright for non-attendance in May.

The deadline for registering your postal vote is July 5 and the application form can be found here. Once completed, these are to be returned to the Election Registration officer using the details provided on the form.

We hope local residents will see this as an opportunity to have their say in who represents them in local government, so please do use your vote!

While it is great to have local people involved in local politics, I am not sure that you can be proud of the fact that you have forced a by-election, especially when there is little chance of success. Do you know how much these elections cost the tax payer!!!!

I would suggest that is is better to have a by-election and for hard-working independent candidates to have a chance to gain a seat on the council than to have a party backed candidate who does not turn up for a meeting in 6 months.
